POST-HARVEST CHALLENGE
Sabolai
Onions are the 2nd most used vegetable in the world. In tropical regions however, specifically where temperatures can get very high with high humidity, onions are not able to survive post-harvest storage. This leads to large losses (30 – 40%) throughout the year. Due to the shortage this creates, farmers lose sales, onions go to waste, prices become very steep, and planning is extremely difficult. This has led us to initiate the project “Sabolai”. The goal of the project is to improve the value chain around onions. During the implementation phase of the project, multiple smart storage facilities are built to reduce the post-harvest losses of onions in Cameroon. The facilities autoregulate parameters to provide optimum conditions for onions during long term storage.
Are you a farmer?
As a core player in the value chain of onions, TechnAfrik engages extensively with multiple actors in the entire chain. This is from seeds vendors to farmers and all the way to consumers. This cumulated knowledge gives TechnAfrik the right tools to act as the ideal subject matter expert. Do you want to grow onions and do not have enough capital? TechnAfrik pre-finances farmers and monitors the practices used until harvest time. This partnership allows TechnAfrik to guarantee their customers high-quality high onions throughout a long period of the year. Reach out to us to evaluate the possibility to start growing onions during the next campaign.
Want to sell your onions?
As part of our mission to reduce post-harvest losses in the country, we discuss with farmers on the best practices for growing and harvesting onions. This leads to high-quality onions in the market. Moreover, we also guarantee to farmers that we can purchase big quantities when the quality of the onions is not compromised. Please reach out to us should you want to work with us to address the post-harvest challenges as a farmer or if you have onions to sell.
Storage as a service
We offer continuous, uninterrupted storage services in our smart storage facilities. The warehouse facilities are set to optimal atmospheric conditions which are required to prolong the shelf life of onions. This will provide customers with a worry-free storage experience and eliminate the need for pre-mature sales of onions; giving customers the freedom to choose when and how they wish to meet market demands.
